C. Laura Presents OCEANMINDED laurai@sarasotamagazine.com The Pieces: Ceramics; Survival, Preserve and Engulf Artist's Statement: C. Laura Irmis My personal relationship with nature is the essence of my artistic expression. My “Water Worship†series suggests our social importance of protecting our oceans. By suggesting this ritualistic idea of worship conveys the respect needed from us towards our environment. The idea of transferring ocean water from its natural habitat and preserving it in my organic, clay vessels portrays its importance and suggest a worship ideology. By using round, feminine vessels it evokes the interconnection of Mother Nature with ourselves. I want my pieces to spark interest and thought into my audience and hope the impact signifies awareness of environmental importance. C. Laura has explored many different mediums and has always had a creative thirst to quench. She graduated with a B.A. in Visual Arts from Eckerd College and found her role as an environmental artist. This passion would become her voice. C. Laura’s artistic statement and work is to provide awareness of our environments depletion, focusing on our waterways and oceans.
